bought this to charge the batteries in my RV. i have powered a drill, vacuum cleaner all the lights on or in my RV. so far have used it for around 6 hrs. starts first or second pull every time. sound wise it is quieter then some of the cheap 4 stroke models out there. i would have to give this unit a 10 because of the price and how well it works.
Below the top portion and handle it is mostly plastic. I use it to power my electric garden tools and chain saw. This is a great machine for the money. It doesn't take much to crack it. Works great. Takes two or less pulls to get it started. I tripped over it with my steel toe boots and chipped off a piece of the plastic. Still runs fine.
I was pleasantly surprised with this generator. The solution is to just wait about 20 min and try again. It is not all that loud and mine doesn't smoke or anything like that. It appears to be well made, to me, it looks like a more expensive product. It will also run my circular saw. It usually starts on the 2nd or 3rd pull. It arrived well packaged, the instructions are clear and easy to follow, and I had it running within minutes of it arriving at my house. Under a moderate load the generator runs like a top.
It is easy to forget to turn it on or open the fuel valve. If you do this, you'll be pulling and pulling and you'll flood the thing and it won't start. I can run a heavy duty floor fan, two shop lights, and a power drill, no problem. Overall a great product for the money.
The Chinese clones are sold under a variety of brand names including Launtop, Linhai, Wildfire, ETQ, Triron Power, Mellga, and many other private labels. One has failed of the 5. This is a well built little generator. NEVER AGAIN. They are stored with STABIL in the fuel mix. The Yamahas are still available in the UK, New Zealand, and Australia. I liked them so much I bought 4 more for family members.
It has become dedicated as a parts mule for the other 4 gensets. Originally a 1973 Yamaha design sold as the ET650, ET800, ET950, and ET1250. the one that broke still runs, but the governor does not work. I bought one for myself after a storm left me powerless for 4 days. I liked it, tested it for several months, and used it for chores around the house that req'd power. The other 4 are two years old and all work flawlessly and have required no repairs. I'd buy more if I had room to store them.
I then called their support line. The generator started and ran fine out of the box, but didn't actually generate any current. I submitted a support email to Eastern Tools, but didn't receive a response. They offered to send me a new capacitor to see if I can fix it myself, which is fine with me if it works. Unfortunately, they expect it to take a week to ten days for me to receive the part, and there's no way of knowing if the fix will be successful. They seemed pretty nonchalant, considering the fact that they sold me a product that didn't even work.
